Thank you for your interest in Irish Wolfhound Rescue! Our breed is fortunate in that there are very few purebred Irish Wolfhounds surrendered to rescue at any given time. Usually there are less than 20 in rescue within one year in the entire United States. Typical wait time for a rescued Irish Wolfhound is 2 to 3 years.
Rescued wolfhounds are often of unknown origin. Unknowns may include age, health, heritage and behaviors around other people and animals. If you are considering adopting a rescued Irish Wolfhound, you must be prepared to meet that hound at whatever level it is at and guide it forward for the time remaining.
If you are considering an Irish Wolfhound, it is your responsibility to find out as much about this breed as possible. Excellent resources include breeders and owners, and the Irish Wolfhound Club of America (www.iwclubofamerica.org). NCIWC has many events throughout the year where the public can come and meet the hounds and owners. Check this website for more details.
